Just a very short post (no spoilers), because I’m tired, but trying to keep to the a post a day thing.
Now, I like Caprica. It’s really good, clever, so much better than Battlestar Galactica (although the two series really shouldn’t be compared, they’re so different). A bit more complicated than the average series, so perhaps less accessible to the general public.
Anyhow, I came upon this today. I can’t believe they’re cancelling it! Or, rather, I can’t believe they’re canelling it without actually giving it a chance. You see, when Caprica first aired, they showed only a handful of episodes (I can’t remember how many, 7? 8?) before giving it a break and saying that it would return next year, in January or February I think. Then, they suddenly changed their minds and started airing the episodes a few weeks ago. And, now they’re compaining about lack of audience. Of course people hasn’t been watching it, most people didn’t even know it was on! You can’t just announce something, then change your minds without announcing it properly, and expect people to read your minds. And to make it worse, they’ve now taken it off the air, out of the blue, and are apparently planning on broadcasting the last five episodes sometime in the first quarter of 2011.Yeah, very specific. Way to go, SyFy!
And rather annoyingly, the last episode in the first batch was amazingly good. I couldn’t wait to watch the next one! But time went on and I kinda forgot about it a bit.And then, wham, the series started again. But then they’d kinda lost the magic of the previous episode. And now we’re gonna have to wait an unspecified amount of time to even get to watch the rest of the episodes. Yeah, nice. Doesn’t work with a character centric show, it really doesn’t.
I haven’t seen all of the broadcast episodes yet, but now I’m thinking I should probably wait until it’s finished before watching any more, before I get invested in the series again. It’s so disappointing, knowing that a series could have been so good, only to have it sliced and diced and ruined by the channel, or whoever makes the decisions. *coughFireflycough*
